[Kunstwort aus Floppy und optical, »optische Diskette«], 1988 von der Firma Insite Peripherals vorgestellte Technik, um die Kapazität einer 31/2-Zoll-Diskette zu erhöhen: Mit einer Kombination aus magnetischer Aufzeichnung und optischen Hilfsmitteln (Führungslaser, optische Führungsspuren auf der Diskette) zur präzisen Positionierung der Schreib-/Leseköpfe ließen sich bis zu 20,8 MByte auf speziell präparierten Disketten speichern (übliche Kapazität 1,44 MByte). Das entsprechende Laufwerk konnte zudem auch herkömmliche 31/2-Zoll-Disketten lesen und beschreiben. Die Technik hat sich auf dem Markt jedoch nicht durchgesetzt.
 
Das Prinzip wurde Mitte der 1990er-Jahre mit der SuperDisk (LS-120) wieder aufgegriffen; damit werden Ende 2001 bis zu 240 MByte Kapazität auf speziellen und 32 MByte auf 3,5-Zoll-Disketten erreicht. Die Marktakzeptanz ist angesichts preiswerter CD-Brenner und -Rohlinge ungewiss.
